Three sisters from Detroit formed together the group 'The Jones Girls' in the early 70's. The sisters are Shirley, Brenda and Valerie Jones. They released their debut single 'Will you be there' in 1974 for the Paramount Label. In mid seventies they toured with several artists like B.B. King, The Four Tops, The Impressions. Kenny Gamble of Philadelphia International records (PIR) signed them for his label after attending a 'Diana Ross' tour accompanied by 'The Jones Girls'. He was very impressed by their vocal harmonies. |

For the PIR label they released four albums 'The Jones Girls (1979', 'At peace with woman (1980)', 'Get as much love as you can (1981)' and 'Keep it comin' (1984)'. In 1983 The Jones Girls switched from label to RCA.
This album on RCA records is 'On Target' is from November 1983 and is produced by Fonzi Thornton and Robert Wright. This duo also wrote 90% of the tracks. The well known classic tracks of this album are 'On Target', '2 Win U Back' and 'Knockin''. All three are killer tunes. 'On Target reached #43 and '2Win U Back' #47 in the billboard R&B Singles chart. The album itself reached # 59 in the album charts. Don't forget to listen to the underestimated down tempo tracks 'Baby i'm yours' and 'Curious'.
