Rhonda Thomas - Vinyl Daze

RHONDA THOMAS possesses a unique, soulful and sultry voice that enables her to pull at your heart strings on Vinyl Daze songs like “Oh Yay”, “Castles Made of Sand” and “Show Me How to Love You”. Her vocal tool also can lead you to a dance floor as she belts out tunes such as “Speak Life”, “Let’s Go” and “I Love It”. Rhonda has four critically acclaimed albums and a DVD but is truly noted for her live performances. She has shared the stage with Roberta Flack, Kenny Lattimore, Eric Roberson, Goapele, India Arie, Incognito, Howard Hewett, Dwele, Frank McComb and many others.

VINYL DAZE is a project born from a conversation Rhonda had with producers Darren “Daz-i-kue” Benjamin (of the U.K.’s Bugz in the Attic), Khari Cabral Simmons (leader of soul bossa group, JIVA and bassist for India Arie) and Julius Speed. She told the gentlemen that she wanted a project that felt like Quincy Jones and George Duke made it for Patrice Rushen, Michael Jackson and Phyllis Hyman. As a collective, they set forth penning tunes that utilized their new millennium musicianship while allowing for a 1981 sound to guide them. Rhonda also called on her musical friends such as award winning songwriter, Kipper Jones, vocalists, Avery Sunshine (“The Sun Room”), Donnie Johnson (“The Colored Section”) and Fred “Freddy Boy” Sawyers (who sang beside Rhonda for ten years as a background singer for soul icon, Isaac Hayes) to co-write, sing and vocally produce songs with her for this sonic labor of love.

A good example is the track 'Show Me How To Love You' which is the first single of this forthcoming album. This track sounds indeed as an eighties track, very soulful music. Fantastic melody, great Bass, and very nice bridge. I'm looking forward for the release of this album, it sounds very promising. It will be released on January 20. The album release comes out at March 3, 2015.
