1983 was the year that The Temptations released their umpteenth album named 'Surface Thrills' on Gordy Records. 'Surface Thrills' is produced by two well-known producers Dennis Lambert (Four Tops/Commodores/Dennis Edwards/Thelma Houston/Five Star), and Steve Barri. This album contains 8 tracks and is now reissued by Vinyl Masterpiece
Buy This CD From Vinyl Masterpiece Now!When the CD player starts I thought they have put in the wrong CD. The title track 'Surface Thrills' has the wrong beat, the sound of screaming electric guitars, not really Temptations dignified. Luckily this is not true for the second track on this album. This track is entitled 'Love On My Mind Tonight' which is a great slow tempo track with the famous Temptations vocal arrangements by Dennis Edwards, Melvin Franklin, and awesome guitar licks by Paul Jackson, Jr. The latter reached position #17 in the US R&B chart.
'One Man Woman', track #3 is a typical eighties tune with lots of synthesiser bass, electric bass and synth sounds. The last track on side 1 of the vinyl album is the ballad 'Show Me Your Love'.
One of the up-tempo tracks is 'The Seeker' another eighties tune with a superb sound. 'What a Way to Put It' a down-tempo track arranged by Benjamin Wright, great melody and nice bass work by Freddie Washington.
'Bringyourbodyhere (Exercise Chant)' is a tune you can use to work out. In my opinion it's the best track on this album. Typical eighties boogie, co-produced by The Temptations and Benjamin Wright. The ladies of the group Water, Julia Waters, Maxine Waters are hired for the background vocals.
The last track on this album is 'Made in America' has some great music, nice bass.
This a 3 star album that means good, by the artist's usual standards and therefore recommended.
