Oliver Cheatham, known by the MCA single 'Get Down Saturday night', released a new single on Soul Junction Records. Following on from “Get Down Saturday Night” Oliver continued to score chart success with “SOS”, “Celebrate Our Love” followed by two duets with Jocelyn Brown “Turn Out The Lights” and “Mind Buster”.

Both tracks on this 7" single are previously unissued 70’s soul tracks, 'Don't Pop The Question (If You Can't Take The Answer)' and 'Good Guys Don't Make Good Lovers'.

Oliver is recording a new CD album that will be released this year

The group Newban released their self titled album 'NEWBAN' in 1977 on GUINNESS records. In the same year they released 'NEWBAN2' on the same label. One year later the majority of the members signed to A&M records, formed by Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss, as Atlantic Starr. The style for both Newban albums is Jazz Funk. The sound is a different as their Atlantic Starr known tunes.

Newban and Newban 2 were recorded at the famed Bell Sound Recording Studios under legendary audio engineer Malcolm Addey's masterful eye. Remastered from the original master reel to reel tapes by Malcolm Addey. CD and digital version include new mixes from remix legend John Morales. Never heard before bonus tracks. Winston Warrior released his new album 'Lifeology 101…Back 2 School' today. This is how Winston thinks about. “Lifeology 101…Back 2 School is personal. Welcome release of this extremely hard to find 1971 recorded vaults album (previously un-issued tracks) by ex. Vinyl-masterpiece just released, on their label PTG, a CD reissue of Oliver’s album 'The Boss' from 1982. This eight track album was originally released on MCA Records.

The eight tracks on this album are a mix of down, mid-tempo soul, boogie tunes.

Oliver is the name of the band and the lead singer is the unmistakably Oliver Cheatham. What can i say about Oliver Cheatham. Cheatham’s voice is unique and immediately recognizable, just like the voice of Jocelyn Brown. Oliver Cheatham is born in 1948, Detroit, Michigan. His biggest hit was ‘Get Down Saturday Night’ from 1983. Don’t underestimate this album, it’s less commercial than ‘Get Down’ but very enjoyable. It’s full of superb boogie tunes.

The tracks are the more than six minute boogie tune ‘Everybody Wants To Be The Boss’, the four minute plus ‘Make Up Your Mind’, ‘Boogie Stomp’ and last but not least ‘Don’t take Your Love Away’. All these boogie tracks have the ingredients it needs such as the Bass, Synthesizers, Drums, Brass and guitar rifs. The other tracks like ‘I Gave Myself To You’, ‘I Want Your Love’ are very soulful with nice melodies and background vocals. All mentioned tracks become a 5 star rating. Highly recommended.

You can compare the sound of this album with albums of Dayton, the Dazz Band and One Way.

I must confess that I never heard of Arthur Ross till I received this reissue CD from vinyl-masterpiece.com. Guess what Arthur 'T-Boy' Ross is the brother of the legendary Motown, ex supremes, Diana Ross. Unfortunately Arthur died in 1996 on a age of 47 years. He, and his wife, were found murdered in a basement of a home in Detroit.

He was a songwriter at Motown and hooked up with Leon Ware and wrote hits for other Motown acts such as Michael Jackson, The Miracles and Marvin Gaye.

For Marvin he wrote together with Leon Ware the hit 'I Want You' and with this cover version he opens his debut album from 1979. His version is 'more' musical, more up-tempo and with superb female background vocals by Brenda Sutton, Anita Anderson, Carolyn Dennis. T-Boy Ross wrote each tracks in collaboration with other writers such as Crusaders member Joe Sample, Robert Winters and already mentioned Leon Ware.

All tracks are soulful with great melodies and beautiful 'The Jones Girls' like background vocals. My favorite tunes are 'I Want You', 'She's my lover', Somebody's sneaking and Peeking'. A Nice to have album. Available at vinyl-masterpiece. Click here to purchase the album.

Wowwwww, this cd was ahead of It's time! The production was so good that I couldn't believe it wasn't a smash! I bought this cd in 1990 and it is still one of my favorites of all time. The instrumental tracks are so strong that they could be on a whole different act, but so funky and jazzy that I would buy it alone! I hope they re-release it and let the world have a chance to hear some really fly sophisticated upscale original music from back in the day. Great work and a great cd!
