The Dazz band were one of the groups responsible for developing the synth-funk of the 80s. The merge of two Cleveland, Ohio funk, bands Bell Telefunk and Brain Tree. During the years there were several line-up changes in the group. The main members were still , Bobby Harris, and Pierre DeMudd during the Dazz band years. The groups name was originally called Kinsman Dazz after the Kinsman Grill - a club owned by Bobby's father. Dazz means danceable jazz.

Isley Brother, Chris Jasper, just released his brand new CD Inspired: By Love, By Life, By The Spirit. Chris wrote, produced, arranged, played all the instruments for this album. The sound on this ten track album is a mix of slow groovers, funky tunes, and up-tempo tracks. You probably know the Isley-Jasper-Isley tune 'Caravan Of Love' and these slow tempo tunes have some influences of that song. Jazz, R&B and funk pioneer Donald Byrd has died at the age of 80. Donald Byrd was born in Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. on 9 December, 1932. He was a solo artist as well a bandleader.

He created the group 'The Blackbyrds' in early seventies. With this group Donald Byrd scored several hits including "Happy Music" (No. 3 R&B, No. 19 pop), "Walking In Rhythm" (No. 4 R&B, No. 6 pop) and "Rock Creek Park".

In the seventies, and eighties he recorded some albums that are well known in the boogie and funk scene including 'Love Byrd', 'Words, Sounds, Colors And Shapes', Thank You...for F.u.m.l.(funking Up My Life)'

This albums consist twelve of these amazing songs. For me this album is definitely the album of year 2013. Listen to the smooth soul tracks 'I still have you', 'Show You', 'ooh Wee', 'Whisper' featuring Keith Sweat. Don't get me wrong but the other tracks are worth listening to.

Before her untimely death at the age of 54, Teena Marie, known as the Ivory Queen of Soul or simply Lady Tee and as one of the only white artists ever signed to Motown Records, was working on her 14th and latest album, Beautiful. Recorded at her home studio and finished except for final mixes, Beautiful was seen through to its conclusion by Teena's 20-year-old daughter Alia Rose, who sings with her Mom on two tracks, a cover of Curtis Mayfield's "Give Me Your Love" and "Rare Breed," which she co-wrote (Alia co-wrote two more songs on the album, "Sweet Tooth" and the title song). The first single, "Luv Letter," is an homage to Teena's Motown roots, with nods to Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours," and a dedication to Alia's father, who just happened to be a postman, like in the Marvelettes' song of the same name. Beautiful is a mother's gift to her daughter, who returns the gesture the only way she knows how, by completing it. The end result is a true labor of love.
