Dennis Edwards was an American R&B and soul singer who rose to fame as the lead singer of the Temptations. He was born on February 3, 1943, in Birmingham, Alabama, and began singing in gospel groups as a young man.

In 1968, Edwards joined the Temptations, replacing lead singer David Ruffin. He quickly became a fan favorite and helped the group to achieve continued success throughout the 1970s, with hits such as \"Papa Was a Rollin\' Stone\" and \"Masterpiece.\" Edwards\'s powerful, soulful voice became a defining feature of the Temptations\' sound, and he was known for his dynamic stage presence and flamboyant costumes.

Dennis was the lead singer of The Contours until 1968. Lead singer of the tempations from 1968 - 1977, 1980 - 1984.

In the 1980s, Edwards left the Temptations to pursue a solo career, releasing a number of successful R&B albums. He also collaborated with other artists, including Siedah Garrett and Eddie Kendricks, and contributed to soundtracks for movies such as \"Beverly Hills Cop II\" and \"The Goonies.\"

Throughout his career, Edwards was known for his passionate, expressive singing style and his ability to bring emotional depth to his performances. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Temptations in 1989.

Edwards continued to perform and record music up until his death in 2018 at the age of 74. He was remembered as one of the greatest R&B and soul singers of all time, and his contributions to the music industry continue to be celebrated and honored by fans and fellow musicians alike.
