Barry White (Barry Eugene Carter a.k.a. Barry Lee) was an American singer, songwriter, and record producer who was born on September 12, 1944, in Galveston, Texas. He is widely regarded as one of the most successful and influential figures in the history of soul and R&B music, known for his deep, velvety voice and romantic ballads.

White's music career began in the 1960s, when he worked as a songwriter and producer for a number of independent labels. In 1972, he signed a recording contract with 20th Century Records and released his debut album, "I've Got So Much to Give." The album was a critical and commercial success, reaching number 16 on the US Billboard 200 chart and featuring the hit singles "I'm Gonna Love You Just a Little More Baby" and "Never, Never Gonna Give You Up."

Over the course of the 1970s, White released a string of successful albums and hit singles, including "Can't Get Enough" (1974), "You're the First, the Last, My Everything" (1974), and "Let the Music Play" (1976). His music was characterized by lush, orchestral arrangements, deep bass lines, and his signature baritone voice.

White's success as a recording artist also led to numerous opportunities as a producer and arranger. He worked with a number of top artists, including Love Unlimited, the female vocal group he formed in 1972, and the disco group the Love Unlimited Orchestra.

Throughout his career, White was recognized for his contributions to music with numerous awards and honors. He won two Grammy Awards, for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance in 2000 and Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance in 2004. He was also inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame in 2004 and the SoulMusic Hall of Fame in 2012.

Tragically, White passed away on July 4, 2003, at the age of 58, due to kidney failure. However, his music continues to be celebrated and revered by fans and musicians alike, and his legacy as a true soul and R&B legend lives on. Add/Complete Bio
