Anyone Professing To Love R&b Soul Music Should Already Have This Record In Their Collection. Rufus Was One Of The "tightest" And Innovative R&b/funk Units Of The 70's And Early 80's. Chaka Khan's Voice Is A "force Of Nature" And Their Have Been Many Imitators, But They All Pale In Comparison. This Album Was Made At A Time When You Didn't Have To "cherry Pick" The Good Songs, Because "all" Of The Music Was Good. However, If You Must Choose Highlights From "Ask Rufus" Start With "At Midnight (My Love Will Lift You Up)" 70's Funk At It's Best. "Everlasting Love" Essential Listening For Any Aspiring "diva". "Hollywood" Who's Lyrics Still Sound Relevant Today. Also Check Out "Better Days" Chaka Was Singing All Of Her Own Back-up Vocals, Not Common Fare At The Time At All. Many Believe That Chaka's Greatness Is In Her Explosive Wails, But In My Opinion Her Genius Lies In Her Extrodinary Ad-lib's And Vocal Layerings. Listen Closely At The End Of This Track And You'll "hear" What I Mean. Keeping In Mind That This Was The 70's, Before All Of The Engineering "wizardry" Came Into Place To Enhance A Singers Vocals. Chaka Has Layered Each Backing Vocal Track By Track! "Egptian Song" Is A Tour-de-force" Perfomance That Is Not Only Vocally Challenging, But Lyrically Interesting As Well. "Magic In His Eyes" Is Also A Gem, Again Handled With Great Skill By Khan. I Could List The Other Tracks As Well, For The Entire Project Is A Highlight! "Ask Rufus" Is Essential Listening To Any And Every Lover Of R&b Soul.
