Miami based Urban Rock/R&B/Jazz band Sophia Darcell is not new in the music scene. She and her band already released "Love=Pain" back in 2001. Their new album is officialy released in augustus of this year by a new label GrooveCraft productions. The album sold out on CDBaby.com one day after release. "Soul Eclectic" is a neo soul album a musical blending of seventiesSoul with R&b (new Groove) and Jazz.
That Sophia Darcell is influenced by sixtees and seventies Soul is totally clear. When you listen to this CD you can hear on almost every track the lovely wah wah guitar sound and the fine Saxes, smooth bass and funky jazz guitar. All acoustic instuments, and you can hear that. Typical seventies sound. But on a few tracks you can hear an annoying guitar riff (like some Isley Brother's). I don't like that guitar sound ;-(
"7 Seas" and "They Love Like That" are already released as a single in spring '06, are already in rotation over 50+ internet radio stations, having reached No 1 on the charts at artistlaunch.com and soundclick.com' Jazz Vocal Charts. What a coincidence, those two tracks are my favourite. "They Love Like That" has the typical seventies wah wah wah wah sound. Hmmmmm.
"Ceyrah" track No 4 is ok, nice smooth. "Thru the desert" has some nice funky guitar riffs and nice chords, but also that other, I don't like, guitar sound. That same guitar is present on Number 8 "Who's it gonna be" but the sound is from early seventies! A spanish guitar and a congo, and of course the nice voice of Sophia Darcell are the only instruments on "His Sweet Face". "Someday Someone" have a catchy chorus and very beautiful George Benson Jazz Guitar licks. Also a favourite. The last track on this album "Senor Alvarez" is a smooth track with a nice sax.
Sophia Darcell produced and wrote all the songs by herzelf.
Overall a good CD with a mix of slow and uptempo songs with plenty nice seventies sounds. It's Cool Calm and Relaxed.
